ReplyDeleteWhile the information is interesting, there is a lot to retain, as I have just finished reading the pages prior to chapter 2. At this point, I believe the most interesting bit of information I've read is how recent the San's people were domesticated by modern day society and the dilution of their culture. The difference between the Chumash and San’s people was their possessions; the Chumash publically displayed their wealth, while the San’s wealth was more about distributing their belongings, or gifts, and recognized for their generosity or sacrifice of personal items.
ReplyDeleteThe reading is OK. The author makes a lot of comments without referencs. I wish he'd add a reference to his global warming comment, I'd like to see the specific sections he's making his statement from. There seemed to be a bit of speculation added by the author, similar to the class mention classic guesses when no one really knows.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the reading because a lot of the information in the text was new to me. I was very surprised to read how high the estimated population of the world was at the C.E. and before. I think I tripled the amount of time it took me to read the three chapters because I took a lot of notes but then I noticed the website has a wonderful resource with the chapters broken down with important information.

ReplyDeleteI am actually enjoying the reading more than I expected, but I am apparently a much slower reader than I thought. It takes me a really long time to finish a chapter! I am trying to find faster ways to get through the reading, but I do not retain the information as well. I guess I'm stuck with taking my time!
ReplyDeleteReading is going well, what can we expect for the Quiz on Monday?
ReplyDeleteThe topics are all very informative. I got a little behind, but I'm now doing my best to catch up. Thanks for being very considerate. I love your teaching style. The movie and slide shows in class helps me understand more all the related issues discussed in the book.
